As per Buddhist calendar, every fourth month is observed as
‘Saka Dawa’ which began from 26 May 2017. It is one of the most sacred Buddhist
festivals in which we celebrate the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha
Shakyamuni. The merits of any good deeds that you perform during this month are
considered to be multiplied as one hundred thousand times and vice versa.
So every year during this month we do ‘Kangyur’ reading for
two days which means we do reading of the Tibetan Buddhist sacred texts to
remove and protect ourselves from all evil and bad spirits and most importantly
purify one’s own mind and deeds. ‘Kangyur’ or ‘Translated Words’ consists of
work in about 108 volumes supposed to have spoken by the Buddha himself.
The Staff read the scriptures in the school chapel where as
the students above class 7 read them in their own respective classes. The main
organizer of this event is the school Cultural Committee who shoulders the
responsibilities of the refreshment and all.
