KAGYUR READING

Saka Dawa is considered the most sacred Tibetan Buddhist festival celebrating Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana.  Saka Dawa is called the meritorious month. In Tibetan Dawa means “month” while Saka means the name of  the closet star to the earth. In this month any good deeds performed  are rewarded with one hundred million times merits. It falls in the fourth month in the Tibetan Lunar Calender.
To commemorate this holy month the cultural committee of the school organized Kagyur Reading on 12th and 13th June at Lother Hall. According to an internet site “Kangyur” is the translated words of the Buddha. It is the entire collection of texts regarded as “Buddhavacana” or “Buddha word,”  translated into Tibetan. The texts are considered to be “Buddha word” are records not only of the Buddha’s own discourses, but also of teachings and explanations given by others – often by his close disciples with his approval, or by other enlightened beings. Also included are systematic compilations of the Buddha’s pronouncements on particular topics, eg. the rules of monastic discipline in the Vinaya texts

The teachers and the students above class 7 assembled in the hall to read the holy scriptures. ( Kagyur )  The students of class 3 to 6 recited prayers at their respective classes and class 1 and 2 students chanted the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hun” at their homes led by their home mothers. The stage was decorated with religious symbols, decked with butter lamps and tsoks. Refreshments like tea, juice, hot water, bun, biscuit and samosa were served for all. Everyone got an opportunity to earn merits and felt blessed on this auspicious month.

Kagyur Reading

TCV Chauntra Ka gyur Reading
As per Buddhist calendar, every fourth month is observed as ‘Saka Dawa’ which began from 26 May 2017. It is one of the most sacred Buddhist festivals in which we celebrate the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha Shakyamuni. The merits of any good deeds that you perform during this month are considered to be multiplied as one hundred thousand times and vice versa.
TCV Chauntra Ka gyur ReadingSo every year during this month we do ‘Kangyur’ reading for two days which means we do reading of the Tibetan Buddhist sacred texts to remove and protect ourselves from all evil and bad spirits and most importantly purify one’s own mind and deeds. ‘Kangyur’ or ‘Translated Words’ consists of work in about 108 volumes supposed to have spoken by the Buddha himself.
The Staff read the scriptures in the school chapel where as the students above class 7 read them in their own respective classes. The main organizer of this event is the school Cultural Committee who shoulders the responsibilities of the refreshment and all.

Ka-Gyur Reading

Forth Month of the Tibetan Calendar is religiously believed to be significant and auspicious month in a year. There in this month four among the twelve auspicious and significant days coincide such as the birth anniversary, the day of enlightenment and the death anniversary of the Lord Buddha. The month particularly by Buddhists all over the globe believes sacred and popularly celebrates the month as Saka Dawa. Performance of religious rituals such as reciting mantras, circumambulating monasteries, going vegetarian and being more compassionate and many more are practiced throughout the month.

Here in our school the religious and cultural committee organizes two days Ka-gyur reading once in a year during Saka Dawa and this year they organized the program on 21st and 22nd May respectively. Both students and teachers had a meaningful time reading Ka-gyur for world peace and long life of His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama and immediately for the people of Nepal for their quick recovery from both mental and physical traumas after the recent Earthquake.
